Electromagnetic CE Certificate
CE Certification According to 2014/30/EU Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive for Machines and Electrical Equipment
The newly published EMC Directive became mandatory as of April 20, 2016. According to this directive, when assessing product conformity within the EMC scope, CE certification is required under the supervision of a third-party independent notified body using Module B or Module C procedures.
Is EMC Testing mandatory?
Electromagnetic Compatibility is the science that controls the emission of electromagnetic energy by electrical devices. The EMC tests evaluate the following;
- Emission
- Susceptibility
EMC tests are necessary to reduce electromagnetic emissions to acceptable levels and minimize risks.
How to prepare a technical file for electrical devices according to 2014/30/EU Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive?
According to the 2014/30/EU EMC Directive, emission and immunity tests are performed by accredited bodies according to the relevant harmonized standards. Then, if applicable, compliance with other directives (e.g., LVD Directive) is ensured, and the technical file is prepared. Finally, a Declaration of Conformity is made, and the CE marking must be affixed to the product according to the size and method specified in the directive.
The technical file must contain at least the following:
- A general description and overview of the product
- Technical drawings showing the product’s specifications
- Technical drawings and explanations necessary for operating the product
- List of applied harmonized test standards
- Test reports
- Declaration of Conformity
